Sticking with the theme of listing ice conditions... These photos were taken Saturday, Dec. 11. Day 1 of the 2004 Bozeman Ice Festival. The first photo is of the mummy 2/Sceptor area. Can you count the climbers? The second set of photos is of Winterdance and the routes beneath that climb. Winterdance has had at least two ascents this week. On Saturday Dec. 11, one party retreated from the climb. The report was that warm weather has caused the not-so-well attached ice to further detach from the rock. As the weather begins to cool off this week, there will undoubtedly be a number of successful parties on this spectacular climb. Unnamed wall was in a state of deterioration on Saturday. Climbs like Black Magic, Magically Delicious, and Thrill is Gone were climbable, but won't likely last long if warm weather continues. Let's hope for colder weather or maybe go rock climbing.
