Flanders

Skied up into Flanders on Sat. The colder temps hadn't brought anything down. Broke trail up to the Upper Flanders climbs and ended up below Butterflies on Tears. Also checked out Fact or Flander which looks like a fun one...

Definitely looks fun... curious about the yellow ice though? My friends and I climbed Killer Pillar that Sunday. I've never been up there before that but it was fat ice. The snowfields below the climb are an obvious avy path and I didn't like the looks of the snowpack at all... weak sugar layers at multiple depths with the top 18" shearing easily. We knob-climbed up moderate cliff bands and then traversed over to the ice... somewhat dicey as well so take care whoever goes there soon. Hopefully my picture shows up of Justin Elliot on the climb...

An observation... In the same amount of time that this post and the other "Hyalite Access Update" have been posted (a few hours) - this one has had 147 views and the other only 40. Although I'm a demented Flanders junkie as much as anyone and always interested in the latest condition reports - Come the F*** on People! If climbers as a group don't care enough to work together a little bit to protect Hyalite access, it won't matter what the hell is happening in Flanders right now. It doesn't take much effort so take just a little bit of your time to read up and find a way to help. Saving Hyalite Access will not just happen. We are in a serious situation here and unless you want to ski from Langohr in the future it's time to step up. If Hyalite access isn't motivation enough to get moving, do it for me and Bill Dockins. If nothing else, we'd appreciate some help so perhaps we too can go Hyalite ice climbing again this season, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next, and the next.... you get the idea.

Oh and I forgot, thanks for breakin' trail to Upper Flanders!
