Crazy Mountain Range?

I have read some things on other web-sites about possible climbs in the Crazy Mountain Range, and also in the Elkhorn Mountains near Helena. Does anyone know more about these, and could fling some info my way? Thanks, Griz Man

In the Elkhorns is Casey Falls. Ron's second Montana Ice guidebook has some details. On a clear day you can scope out the ice from the IGA store in East Helena to see if it has touched down. The ice tends to form like a chandelier. It helps to have a string of cold days. A toprope is an option if the ice is really bad. I'm told someone improved the access up the gulch by chainsawing some of the deadfall. I'll post some pictures so you can see how it has formed in past years. Cataract Falls is another option in the Helena area. It is a better climb with a smaller approach.

Thanks a lot Dave, any idea how tall the fall is? My dad hiked up Casey Meadow today and said there was ice up there but didnt know if it was touching yet. Do you know if it is in? Planning on making the hike within the next two weeks, maybe i will see ya up there. Thanks Again, Griz Man
