Closing the Road

I drove the road on the 27th and 30th and didn't see any accidents. On the 30th, on the way out, there was a truck stuck ahead of us for a few minutes. I didn't see why he got stuck but I assumed he just pulled too far onto the shoulder when another truck passed heading the other way. Someone ahead of us pushed them out and we all proceeded. No big deal. We saw a couple of FWS vehicles heading towards the trailhead around that same time. I commented to my climbing partners how they should be happy about all the users out having a good time thanks in part to the plowed road.

Ice Breaker

The Hyalite Ice Breaker Last Thursday may have been one of my best days of climbing in Hyalite Canyon and for me Hyalite represents the majority of my ice climbing memories. I learned to ice climb south of Bozeman and it was Hyalite that shifted my way of thinking about climbing. Hyalite has always had it?s own form of hard climbing, mostly because of the rock quality and through my numerous adventures in the canyon I slowly became fascinated with the various forms of geology that make up the structure of climbing for Hyalite.

The Ice Carnival!

I want to know just a little of what ice climbers(local,or non loco) think of the upcoming Bozeman Ice Fesitval. I thought it could be a fun way to meet up with the climbing community and take out some newcomers. While I mostly still think this, I have recently been wondering if it needs to be this big!? Is a banner across main street bozo truely necessary?(beleive it or not there is one, go see yourself!) Does crowding the main fork lot with 50+ cars improve our access? I don't wish to piss anyone off or discredit the amount of work that JoJo or SMCC have put into access issues.

so great to see when someone makes a post about conditions, within a few minutes there is a flurry of views to the post... great to see there are many others out there as pumped as I am for the ice-season... Here we are, sitting in front of our machines waiting for a new post and once it happens scurrying to see what has happened... game on? see you out there! - josh

Outdoor Artificial Boulder in Bozeman :: A New One?

Greetings, We have an outdoor boulder on the Langhor Trail near the community gardens. It is a nice fitness option and quite an attraction for children. It was built with private donations, donated time and materials and a state grant . Ron Dingman, who runs Parks and Rec in Bozeman has been very pleased with the structure and the people who come to pull down. Given the success of this Bozeman Parks and Rec is interested in building an additional three boulders around town. Each boulder would mimic a type of rock. Imagine a circuit! The challenge is funding these boulders.

Just some information regarding the new anchors that sit atop of blackline std route. I went out there the other day and found out that there are some new anchors atop black line that are right on the lip and have chains on them . Now I am not sure the purpose of these anchors as there are already a set of bolts on top to belay from and you cannot use these new ones for a belay set up.
