An article on the front page of today's Chronicle, about the 3 guys they're looking for on Mount Hood, quoted Conrad as saying he pays $10K for rescue insurance. This reminded me of a problem I encountered trying to get a new life insurance policy last year; when I truthfully indicated that I do occasionally take overseas climbing trips, the offered rates came back about eight-fold what they would otherwise have been! The only way I can currently get the insurance I need without emptying the kids' college funds is through my employer's group policy, so I'll be in trouble if I change jobs. Anyone have any suggestions for a climber-friendly insurer?
