ICE CLIMBERS NEEDED FOR PHOTOS: CLEOS, SCEPTER, FAT ONE

Submitted by Cameron Lawson on Thu, 01/29/2015 - 10:47
Hello, I'm a photographer in BZN and looking to team up with a couple climbers for ice climbing images in Hyalite. Looking to shoot photos ASAP (post written on Jan. 29th, 2015) • I'd like to shoot on Scepter (I'd be on ground, as climber is climbing ice out of left side/cave area). The climber/athlete must be comfortable on this type of grade. • Fat one: again, I'd be shooting from the ground. • Cleo's: I'd have a rope fixed and be shooting from above. Climber/athlete will need to be comfortable on this grade. Should have bright colored jacket: Red, Orange, Yellow.

Sunday IceFest clinic slot available!

I bought a clinic slot for Sunday the 14th, the Intermediate to Advanced Clinic at the Mummy with Barry Blanchard, and then stupidly proceeded to schedule a plane flight for the same day. So, I'd like to offer my spot to someone. $100. I'll write an affidavit you can present at the gear pickup to JJ, or one of his minions, that will give you my spot. Hyalite freezing over yet or too early

Submitted by ryanm on Tue, 11/11/2014 - 21:08
I don't live in town anymore so I cannot just head up and check but is Hyalite getting climbable? Anyhow too share what I know is that in Lander its too cold to sport climb right now, coldfear.com reports some ice in up there, and last week Louise Lake, WY (Dubois) was pretty far from climbable.

Hyalite Road closed at reservoir

Hello All, According to this post (link below), the FS closed Hyalite Road. I checked with the GNF, and this is correct. You'll need to park at the dam at the base of the reservoir. http://montanaice.com/node/1755#comment-2183 ... making for a long approach to the climbs ... but still worthwhile! http://www.hyalite.org/upper-hyalite-road-closing-temporarily-due-to-se…

My short doc LIFE ON ICE has gone around the world, and it all started here. THANK YOU!

About two years ago I made an account here and posted a message looking for help breaking into the Montana ice climbing community. One of you pointed me towards Joe Josephson and his amazing book Winter Dance, and just like that my little documentary project was born. Since then, LIFE ON ICE, featuring our very own Dr. Callis and a cast of familiar Montana faces, has gone around the world, showing here in Bozeman, in California at Big Bear Lake, and even earned an Honorable Mention at Wild Talk International Film Fest in far-away Durban, South Africa. And it all started here.
